Our Life Is  Awesome

How We Met

We met at work. Aleks sat in a cubicle in the hallway that Gina HAD to keep walking past on the way to the kitchen for refills of tea. A group of us would regularly go out for Happy Hour after work and about the 3rd week into Aleks working at the company curiously no one else could make HH but us 2. We still went, just the two of us, to a tiki bar in El Segundo. Aleks, being the gentleman he is, asked Gina what she wanted to drink. Gina, being the daring girl she is, replied, “something on fire!” (It’s a TIKI bar!). Aleks returned with 2 giant flaming Mai Tais, each one clearly meant to be shared with 3 other people and the rest is history!

The Proposal

Gina was in the midst of applying to a Master of Education program and studying for the required exams. Preoccupied, she had no idea Aleks had been pacing around the apartment getting things together for a planned “study break.” We got our bikes ready and headed down to Manhattan Beach for brunch and then continued to ride along the strand to the beach just past the MB pier. As we were laying out on the sand soaking up the 80 degree sun in late November, Aleks got on his knees, turned to Gina and told her how happy he has been the past 22 months, and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her, and finally asked, “will you marry me?” displaying a gorgeous ring. Gina, couldn’t believe her dreams were coming true and replied, “YES, of course!” As they were soaking it all in, a pod of dolphins swam by to make the moment even more perfect. Gina didn’t end up getting back to studying that day as they went to celebrate with a bottle of champagne and watch their first sunset as an engaged couple.
